Police

A 23-year-old man was released from hospital today following a glassing incident at an inner city nightclub in Darwin early this morning.

Police were conducting a licensed premises check at the Discovery Nightclub when the glassing incident took place and approximately 2:30am.

Police allege that the victim was outside the Discovery nightclub when a 27-year-old man struck him in the face with a glass bottle.

The victim was conveyed by ambulance to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment.

Police apprehended the offender with the help of a security officer after he tried to flee the scene.

The offender will be charged in relation to the following offences:
Aggravated assault
Armed with an offensive weapon
Going armed in public

Sergeant Andrew Health said: "Glassing is a serious incident and will not be tolerated by NT Police. People need to be responsible for their actions, this young man is lucky that his injuries were not life threatening."
