General disturbance –Alice Springs - 4526998 - 452999

Police

A man was arrested following a large disturbance in the Alice Springs CBD yesterday.

Police received a report just before 2am that a large group of people, some armed with baseball bats, were fighting near KFC in Todd Street. Police arrived and found most of the participants had left the area. Police were told the offenders fled in two cars, one of which was located in Gap Rd a short time later. As police drove up to the Holden Commodore, the driver reversed the vehicle colliding with the left hand panel of the police van.

He then led police on a pursuit through the Gap Road and Telegraph Terrace area before being arrested after driving on the wrong side of the road.

The 23-year-old man appeared dazed and was taken to hospital where he was released from custody for medical assessment.

Investigations into the incidents are continuing and police are appealing for witnesses to the disturbance to phone them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
