Firearms confiscated - Darwin City

Darwin City Police confiscated 11 firearms and a large amount of ammunition after receiving reports of a disturbance at the Value Inn, Darwin City in early hours of this morning.

Police attended the hotel just after half past three to assist security staff to evict three intoxicated men from the premises after one man reportedly stole a portable radio.

Enquiries revealed the men, who had travelled to Darwin from interstate, were in possession of a number of unsecured firearms. A subsequent search of two 4x4 utilities was conducted revealing the firearms and ammunition.

Five men aged between 23 and 40 will be issued with infringement notices in relation to firearm offences.

Senior Sergeant Chris Ruzsicska said "Every firearm owner has the responsibility to ensure that their firearms are stored safely and correctly."
