Fatal Vehicle Crash - Howard Springs - Update

Police

Police investigations into the circumstances surrounding the fatal vehicle crash on Gunn Point Road on Sunday 17 October continue today.

At approximately 3.30 pm on Sunday, a Toyota Camry and a Toyota Prado collided head-on in Howard Springs. The 58-year-old passenger of the Camry died as a result of the crash.

Darwin's Major Crash Investigation Unit believe the Camry was travelling along Gunn Point Road towards Palmerston, while the Prado was travelling in the opposite direction when they collided as they rounded a bend in the road.

Police believe the vehicles swerved in a last second attempt to avoid each other, however both swerved in the same direction resulting in the collision.

The 27-year-old driver of the Prado was released from hospital yesterday. However the 71-year-old driver of the Camry remains in a serious condition in the Intensive Care Unit at Royal Darwin Hospital.

Alcohol was not believed to have been a contributing factor.
