Fatal vehicle crash - Coolalinga

Police

Police, Fire and Rescue and Power and Water personnel were called to the scene of a fatal vehicle crash in Coolalinga at 10:50 am today.

It is believed the driver of a Toyota Hilux was attempting to make a right hand turn onto the Stuart Highway from Henning Road when a road train travelling inbound failed to stop at a red light, causing the vehicles to collide.

The 24-year-old driver of the road train lost control during the crash and crossed into the outbound lane of the Highway, damaging the main water pipelines in the process. He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital by St John Ambulance with minor injuries.

The 40-year-old man driving the Hilux died as a result of the crash.

A section of the Stuart Highway remains closed while members from the Major Crash Investigation Unit investigate the exact circumstances surrounding the crash. Cranes are expected to be used to remove the vehicles.
