Fatal – Single vehicle rollover - Arnhem Highway

Police

The three people that were believed to be employed in Kakadu, were travelling inbound along the Arnhem Highway in a Holden Commodore at approximately 7:20 pm.

It appears the 44-year-old male driver lost control of the vehicle as it travelled down the verge, became airborne and wedged against a tree.

Police, Fire and Rescue and local health clinic staff attended the scene approximately 8 kms west of the Aurora Kakadu Resort, locating all three occupants inside.

The front passenger was located deceased and the two other occupants were conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital by air.

Major Crash Investigators and Jabiru Police are currently in attendance working to determine the circumstances surrounding the crash.

All motorists in the area are urged to take care and consider an alternative route throughout the morning as the scene is surveyed.

Territory Duty Superintendent Louise Jorgensen said that this is yet another tragic incident.

"At this stage it appears that speed and alcohol were factors in the crash" she said.

This now takes the NT road toll to 14, which is the same number for this period last year.
