Police from Katherine, Maranboy and Bullman are at the scene of a fatal helicopter crash near Mountain Valley Station.

Station staff advised police at about 11:53 am today.

The incident occurred near the Mountain Valley Station Homestead which is located approximately 150kms East of Katherine.

The male pilot died as a result of the crash; he was the sole occupant of the helicopter.

Police are at the scene conducting initial investigations and will secure the scene pending advice from the Australian Transport Safety Bureau.

There is no further detail at this stage.
