Police received a report just before 3.30pm of a single vehicle rollover on the Central Arnhem Highway approximately four kilometres from Garma. Police said it appears a female driver of a Toyota Troopcarrier lost control of the vehicle on a bend causing it to roll. A 19-year-old female passenger in the vehicle died in the crash.
Police and ambulance crews from Nhulunbuy and members of the Katherine Rural Traffic Patrol who were in the area to assist with policing this weekend's Garma Festival, attended the scene.
The female driver and three other passengers who were also injured in the crash have been transported to Nhulunbuy Hospital. No further details are available at this time. All persons were residents of Nhulunbuy
The death brings the Territory road toll to 30 compared to 16 for the same period last year.
