It appears the 59-year-old male victim was travelling inbound on the Stuart Highway 15 km's North of Katherine when the Ford Falcon left the road. It has then hit a large rock, causing it to roll end over end before coming to a stop several metres off the road.

Police were called to the scene at around 4:30 pm, locating the male deceased.

The Central Traffic Operations Unit are currently investigating the exact circumstances surrounding the crash.

Police continue to urge all drivers to be extra cautious on our roads over the festive season.

This now brings the NT road toll to 47 compared to 31 for the same period last year.
