Fatal- Alice Springs

Police

The Territory road toll has risen to 47 following the death in Alice Springs last night of a female pedestrian.

Police were called to the Ross Highway just after 10pm after the woman was hit by a vehicle. The female driver of the Mitsubishi Pajero told police she was driving outbound on the Ross Highway when she struck the woman approximately 2.7 kilometres east of the roundabout. The driver told police she did not see anyone on the roadway before the collision and only realised she had struck a pedestrian after she completed a u-turn and returned to the scene.

Police from the Major Crash Unit attended and are investigating the cause of the accident. The victim is yet to be identified.

The death brings the Territory road toll to 47 compared to 30 for the same period last year.
