Police are investigating an incident in which a 16-year-old youth escaped from a Juvenile holding centre in Alice Springs overnight.

Police received a report of the incident just after 4am from staff at the Aranda House Juvenile Holding Centre. Staff told police the boy had threatened them with a metal pole forcing them to lock themselves in an observation room. The boy then forced a screen on an internal window and found keys to the front door and let himself out.

He is described as being of Aboriginal appearance and was last seen wearing jeans and a white short sleeved t-shirt and white shoes.
