Easter traffic campaign results - Darwin

Police

The campaign, which began in Darwin on Thursday 01 April, saw police members conducting 20 Random Breath Testing Stations throughout Darwin and the Rural areas.

As a result, 4 032 people were given road side breath tests and three persons were subject to road side drug tests. Eleven were found to be driving over the legal blood alcohol limit.

Members have summonsed 15 people for traffic related offences and issued 160 Traffic Infringement Notices.

Police also found 16 people to be driving defective vehicles and issued 64 cautions.

Virginia Read, Superintendent Support Division Greater Darwin Regional Command said that this result was quite pleasing.

"I am disappointed that 11 drink drivers were located, however one drink driver in every 366 drivers tested is remarkable in comparison to results we've had in the past.

"It may almost seem as though the numerous and constant warnings may be getting through to people.

"One drink driver can still cause massive trauma both directly and indirectly and police, throughout the rest of the year, will continue targeting these offenders.

"I'd like to thank all the Northern road users that acted responsibly throughout the Easter long weekend and urge them all to continue in this manner" she said.
