Drugs and liquor seized –Central Australia

Police

Police seized Cannabis and Methylamphetamine after drug detector dogs searched passengers and freight on a bus in Alice Springs today.

Detective Sergeant Michael Sharkey said members of the Dog Operations Unit(DOU), the Drug Intelligence Unit (DIU) and the Substance Abuse Intelligence Desk (SAID) conducted a random search of passengers and freight on an incoming Adelaide bus. A 30-year-old woman was issued with a drug infringement notice when police found her to be in possession of 14 grams of Cannabis.

Police further located 14 grams of Methylamphetamine in freight being sent to a Darwin address. The drugs, with a street value of approximately $5000, were seized.

Meanwhile, members of the SAID, DIU and DOU were also involved in traffic apprehensions at the intersection of the Tanami Highway and the Stuart Highway yesterday. Thirty two vehicles were pulled over and inspected which resulted in the seizure of 44 litres of alcohol. Two people were also issued with drug infringement notices after police found them in possession of a small quantity of Cannabis.
