Drug seizure - Maningrida

At about 8:30pm, members conducting rural patrols near Maningrida stopped two four wheel drives travelling into the community. A subsequent search of the Toyota Hilux and Landcruiser were conducted where members located and seized a total of 160 grams of cannabis.

The drugs were located hidden in both vehicles and were concealed in two tomato sauce bottles and a shampoo container along with 200 small clip seal bags.

Both vehicles were seized the offenders have been charged with offences including:

possession of a trafficable quantity of cannabis
supply of cannabis

They are due to appear in Maningrida Court on July 7.

Superintendent Brent Warren said, if the drugs had of reached the community they could have sold for as much as $16 000.

"NT Police will continue to target offenders who traffic drugs into vulnerable remote communities. It is simply deplorable that offenders selfishly attempt to make a profit without any thought for the terrible consequences their actions can have on community residents," he said.
