Drug Seizure - Maningrida

Police



At approximately 11.00 am yesterday morning, Maningrida Police stopped a Toyota Land Cruiser approximately 18 kilometres east of Oenpelli after Police noticed the front seat passenger was in possession of an opened can of beer.

On further inspection of the vehicle, Police located a substantial amount of alcohol.

Police then conducted a thorough search of the vehicle and located a large quantity of kava concealed within door trims of the vehicle. There was 190 kilograms of kava found, which was individually packaged for sale. The estimated street value of the kava is $190,000.

Upon searching the engine bay of the vehicle, approximately 50 grams of cannabis plant material and deal bags were located within the air filter. The estimated street value of the cannabis is $5,000.

The offenders, aged from 19 to 47, were arrested and are currently in Police custody. They will be charged with the following offences: Transport of liquor into a restricted area Possession of a commercial quantity of kava Possession of a dangerous drug in a public place Possession of liquor in a prescribed area Supply of non-commercial drug Supply of kava without license
