Drug Seizure - Knuckey Lagoon & Brinkin

Members of the Drug Enforcement Section have arrested three people responsible for importing commercial quantities of drugs into the Territory.

Yesterday at about 4:00pm police attended a residence at Knuckey Lagoon and seized a quantity of drugs that had been concealed in a drum of motor oil located in a vehicle. Members tracked the vehicle and drugs from Sydney; as a result of the raid the following was located and seized:

7003 MDMA Tablets - 69 times commercial quantity of schedule 2 drug
509 MDMA Capsules - 10 times commercial quantity schedule 2 drug
9 lysergic acid tables - 3 times commercial quantity schedule 2 drug
13.6 grams of cocaine - trafficable quantity
5.7 grams of methamphetamine - trafficable quantity
19.6 grams of cannabis material
$3,250 cash
Various pieces of manufacturer and production equipment
An extendable baton
2005 Mitsubishi Lancer
A boat, outboard and trailer
A flat screen TV and surround sound system

A simultaneous search was conducted by the Drug Enforcement Section at a residence in Brinkin resulting in the seizure of the following items:

87 MDMA Capsules - 2 times commercial quantity
1.2 grams of methamphetamine
2.6 grams of cannabis
.22 calibre rifle
Pump action shotgun

A 33-year-old man was arrested at the Knuckey Lagoon residence and conveyed to Darwin Watch House. A second 22-year-old male was arrested at the Brinkin Residence and a 32-year-old female was later arrested at Darwin Airport. They are expected to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court on Thursday March 4, 2010 in relation to a number of drug offences, including:

Possession and Supply Commercial Quantity of a Schedule 1 Substance
Possession and Supply Commercial Quantity of a Schedule 2 Substance
Possession of a Trafficable Quantity Schedule 1 Substance
Possession of a Trafficable Quantity Schedule 2 Substance

Possess Cannabis
Possess Tainted Property

Detective Superintendent Peter Bravos from the Drug and Organised Crime Division said "These arrests are the culmination of a Drug Enforcement Sections, Operation Bermuda. The successful resolution of this operation has seen a very significant seizure of Ecstasy and Cocaine that had a potential street value of approximately $400 000.00. The Northern Territory Police is committed to keeping our community safe and will continue to severely disrupt organised crime groups from distributing illicit drugs into our community. "
