Drug Seizure - Borroloola

Police

Borroloola Police arrested a 56-year-old male in relation to drug and drink driving offences yesterday.

At about 6:50pm police apprehended a Toyota Hilux on Anula Road for a routine check and breath test. The driver completed the road side breath test which returned a positive result and was searched prior to being placed in the police vehicle. He was found to be in possession of 2 deal bags of cannabis.

The offender was arrested and conveyed to Borroloola Police Station where a breath analysis returned a positive blood alcohol content of .081%. A subsequent search of his vehicle was conducted, revealing 42 deal bags of cannabis weighing a total of 39 grams. A small amount of cash was also seized from the vehicle.

The offender has been charged with the following offences:

Possess cannabis in a public place
Unlawfully supply cannabis to another
Drive a motor vehicle while unlicensed
Drive with a medium range blood alcohol content

He has been bailed to appear in Borroloola Court on 9 March 2010.

Acting Superintendent Lee Morgan says " Cannabis use is a significant problem in remote communities. People that supply cannabis to remote communities are profiting from people that do not appreciate or understand the long term health implications of cannabis use. Drug suppliers are not welcome in any community, police will continue to target these people and do what they can to try and have them removed from the community".
