Drink drivers - Alice Springs

Police

A driver who came to police attention when his broken exhaust caused sparks to fly from under his car was one of three drivers arrested for drink driving in Alice Springs at the weekend.

The 36-year-old man driving a Ford Falcon station wagon along Smith Street just after 10.30pm last night was arrested when he finally stopped the car after the exhaust fell off and one of the rear tyres blew.

Police found the man was driving with a blood alcohol content of .130 per cent. He was charged with medium range drink driving, failing to stop., disqualified driving and driving at a speed and in a manner dangerous.

A 28-year-old man will also appear in court after allegedly driving with a blood alcohol level of .232 per cent around 10.30pm last night. The man came to police attention when the Toyota Landcruiser he was driving drifted to the wrong side of the road causing oncoming traffic in Lovegrove Drive to take evasive action.

The man was arrested for driving with a high range blood alcohol level, driving unlicensed and driving without due care. He was also charged with driving an unsafe motor vehicle when police noted the front windscreen was smashed and the vehicle had bald tyres.

Then around 12.30am this morning police arrested a 44-year-old man who was driving his vehicle in Gap Road with a blood alcohol level of .152 per cent.
