Domestic incident - Leanyer

Police

A 36-year-old male is currently in police custody after an incident that occurred in Leanyer early this morning.

It is alleged that the male attended the residence of his 35-year-old estranged wife on Rosewood Crescent at approximately 3:15 am and proceeded to cause a large disturbance.

He smashed the front door of the residence, was involved in an altercation with a number of people and then removed their two-year-old son from the house.

He then drove his Isuzu truck into her car causing extensive damage and forcing the car forward into a structural support of the elevated residence and then left the scene.

Patrolling members located the white Isuzu truck travelling on the Stuart Highway in Palmerston, activated their lights and sirens and followed the vehicle until it became bogged on Levey Road in Virginia.

Police attempted to arrest the male however he was very aggressive and tried to assault arresting members.

He was subsequently subdued by a Taser and taken into custody and will be interviewed and charged later today.

It is expected that he will be charged with unlawfully damage property, drive speed manner dangerous, resist police and assault police.

The two-year-old boy was returned safely to his mother.
