Disturbance- Shots fired - Arlparra

Police

Major Crime detectives are travelling to Arlparra today after a police officer discharged his firearm during a disturbance about 40 kilometres from the community last night.

At about 7:45 pm a member from Arlparra Police Station was conducting patrols along the Sandover Highway when he came across a vehicle at about 40 kilometres from the community. The officer stopped and spoke to the four occupants in relation to liquor offences when a verbal altercation broke out, during which time a 36-year-old man threatened the officer with a weapon.

As a result of the disturbance the officer has discharged his firearm.

A short time later police conveyed the 36-year-old man to the local clinic then to Alice Springs Hospital where he is currently receiving treatment. At this time it is not known if the mans injuries are a result of the shots fired earlier in the night.

Major Crime Investigators are currently travelling to the scene and members from the Ethical and Professional Standards section are also conducting enquiries in relation to the incident.

Police will provide further updates as information becomes available.
