A 55 year-old Darwin man has died after a boating accident at Cullen Bay today.

The man was believed to have been attempting to clean underneath his 10-metre vessel on a sandbar in the ocean near Cullen Bay, when it rolled over trapping him underneath.

NT Police were notified of the incident at 1:19pm after a member of the public noticed the man trapped underneath the boat.

NT Police, Fire, Emergency Service and St John Ambulance personnel attended the scene, however the man was deceased on their arrival.

Authorities have cordoned off the scene and are conducting enquiries into the circumstances surrounding the incident.
