Police were alerted to the possibility on Wednesday following a report from Alice Springs Hospital management. Investigations led to the arrest of the man on Wednesday night.
The man was tonight charges with numerous offences including two counts of obtaining benefit by deception and knowingly uttering a forged document.
Detectives from the Regional Investigations Division are continuing to investigate. Meanwhile the man has been remanded in custody to face the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on Monday.
