Crash of stolen vehicle - Youth apprehended - Update

A 14-year-old male youth is in police custody after crashing a stolen vehicle on Bagot Road early this morning.

It is alleged the youth, who had been staying at a residence in Wanguri, threatened the residents with a knife before demanding keys to a vehicle, stealing the vehicle and fleeing the scene.

It is alleged that the youth has then travelled to a petrol service station on Bagot Road where he has filled the vehicle up and then left without paying driving in reverse up Bagot Road before then crashing into a light pole. Extensive damage was caused to the vehicle and the power pole was knocked to the ground.

The youth fled the scene on foot however was apprehended a short time later at a bus stop on Bagot Road.

He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital as a precaution and is currently being held under police guard to be interviewed at a later time by members of the Command Tactical Team where it is likely that the following charges will be laid:

Robbery while armed
Assault a person
Stealing
Armed with an offensive weapon
Unlawful use of a motor vehicle
Drive unlicensed
Drive in a manner dangerous
Leave the scene of an accident.
