Cops and Kids Dance Party on Ice – Alice Springs

Police

Police are holding their first Dance Party on Ice in Alice Springs this Friday.

The regular school holiday program "Cops and Kids" has been highly successful since it began at the start of the school holidays, with hundreds of young people turning up to the regular Blue Lights held at the Gap Youth Centre and the Alice Springs Youth Centre.

Police have also been hosting regular basketball and barbecue sessions on Tuesdays and Thursdays at the Traeger Park Basketball Stadium and a Supersports program every Wednesday between 11 and 2pm at the YMCA. This program includes trampolining, rock wall climbing, indoor soccer and poison ball.

This week, however, kids are in for a great treat with police inviting them to come along to the Blue Light disco at the Convention Centre ice skating rink. The Cops and Kids "Dance party on Ice" will be open free of charge this Friday to all youth up to 17-year-old.

Constable David Witham said this was the first time youth of Alice Springs would have a chance to enjoy a Bluelight Disco on ice.

"With the novelty of an ice skating rink in Alice Springs for the first time, we thought it would be a great venue for holding our regular Blue Light event. This will be a great opportunity for young people to come along to one of the two free sessions and have a great time.

"Because we want all kids to have the opportunity to enjoy themselves and learn to skate at the same time, we're reminding the public these will be closed sessions to adults 18 and over. The first session will be between 5.30pm to 7.30pm for youngsters aged up to 13. It should be noted that children under 10 need to be supervised by an adult. Adults can help their youngsters on the ice as long as they're wearing runners. And don't forget, everyone skating needs to make sure they bring along socks.

"The second session will begin at 8pm after a half hour intermission and continue until 10pm. "
