Computer Crime - Arrest

Police

Police were called to an internet cafe on Smith Street at approximately 10:20 am after a member of the public noticed a man acting suspiciously and sighted inappropriate child abuse material on his computer.

On 22 April, police received another report, this time at an internet cafe on Mitchell Street.

Upon attending the premises, members located the offender at the computer. He was arrested and conveyed to the Darwin Watch House.

Police later conducted a search warrant on his residence in Coconut Grove, locating other child abuse material.

He has since been charged with possession of child abuse material and bailed to appear in the Darwin Magistrate's Court on 14 May 2010.

Detective Sergeant Mark Bland of the Darwin Investigation Unit would like to thank vigilant members of the public for alerting members to the appalling actions of this male, subsequently resulting in his arrest.
