Car crashes through shop window – Alice Springs

Police

Police were called to the Coles complex in Alice Springs just before 1pm today following a report of a single vehicle car crash.

When they arrived they found a Toyota Avalon sedan had crashed through the front window and door of a hair salon. Sergeant Andrew Barram said it appeared the 17-year-old female driver of the car lost control of the vehicle and it careened into the shop front narrowly missing a man who was sweeping the footpath. The 64-year-old man was taken to hospital suffering shock and minor injuries from flying debris. Another male who was in the hairdressers at the time also received minor injuries to his hand.

Sgt Barram said the female received minor injuries and was taken by ambulance to Alice Springs Hospital . A four month old baby boy who was in a baby capsule in the back seat was uninjured.

Sgt Barram said police were investigating the incident, but the woman would be summonsed for being a learner driver without a licensed person in the front seat.
