Car and caravan rollover –Tennant Creek - 4542200

Police

A couple had a lucky escape after their car and caravan rolled on the Stuart Highway north of Tennant Creek just after 12.30pm yesterday.

Police, fire and ambulance crews attended the scene 75 kilometres north of Tennant Creek. They found the 62-year-old female driver of a Ford Falcon sedan and her 62-year-old husband had escaped serious injury. It appears the woman was driving south when the wheels of the caravan touched the dirt verge. The driver tried to steer the vehicle back onto the bitumen but the caravan began to sway and slid down an embankment causing both the car and caravan to roll.

Traffic was diverted around the scene until the southbound lane of the highway was cleared. The couple were taken to Tennant Creek Hospital as a precaution but received only minor cuts and bruises.

Police are warning drivers to take extra care on the roads during this tourist season.
