Bridge Death - Alice Springs

Police

It is believed the 24-year-old man was with friends at the Geoff Moss Bridge, approximately five kilometres north of Alice Springs, when his harness flipped upside down whilst he was dropping from the bridge on a rope.

The man coincidentally fell out of the harness onto rocks below resulting in severe head trauma.

Bystanders attempted to perform first aid on the man, however were unsuccessful and the man died at the scene.

Territory Duty Superintendent Robert Burgoyne said this incident highlights the dangers associated with this type of activity.

"Abseiling from height is a dangerous activity at any time and must be conducted with a great deal of care, preferably with professional guidance.

"Correct safety precautions are essential, especially at night," he said.
