Break and Enter - Nightcliff

Police

Police arrested a 34-year-old man early this morning after a Nightcliff resident reported a person attempting to break into his unit.

The resident disturbed the offender and called Police at approximately 03.54 am. Police arrived at the scene within 5 minutes, however the offender had already left the premises.

Police continued their search for the man in the area and discovered that the residential unit above the Nightcliff Post Office had been broken into.

Police spoke to the three occupants of the unit, one of which realised their mobile phone had been stolen.

Police located the offender hiding under a residents' car outside the unit. Property was located on the male relating to the unlawful entry.

The man was arrested and is currently in Police custody. He will be interviewed this morning.

The offender will be charged with the following offences:

* Unlawfully damage property
* Enter a building with the intent to commit an offence
* Stealing
