Police are calling for public assistance following the stabbing of a 36-year-old female on Darwin Esplanade overnight.

Police were alerted to the incident at approximately 08.30 pm last night by a friend of the victim.

The victim was conveyed to the Royal Darwin Hospital where she is currently in a serious but stable condition.

Police are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the assault.

Police urge anyone who may have witnessed the attack to contact Police on 131444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.

Meanwhile Katherine Police are investigating an incident that occurred yesterday morning.

An injured 61-year-old female was located by a member of the public at approximately 11.30 am yesterday.

The woman was conveyed to the Katherine Hospital, and was later medically evacuated to Royal Darwin Hospital. The victim is currently in the high dependency ward in a serious but stable condition.

Katherine Police are seeking any witnesses who may have been in the Katherine Low Level area yesterday morning.

Darwin Police will attempt to speak with the woman today. Police investigations are continuing.
