Assault of Police Officers - Nightcliff

Police



An off-duty female Police Officer was verbally abused and had a shopping trolley thrown at her after she intervened in a fight between two men outside of the Nightcliff shopping centre at approximately 09.45 pm. The woman had identified herself as a Police Officer.

Two other off-duty Police Officers saw the commotion and attempted to assist their colleague; however by the time they got to the scene, the offender was holding a 30cm long knife which he threatened them with.

The man then placed the knife into his pants and walked away.

The off-duty officers followed the man to his residence and called for Police attendance. Police attended a short time later and arrested the offender at his Nightcliff unit.

The offender remains in Police custody and has been charged with the following offences:
* Armed with an offensive weapon
* Make a threat to kill a person
* Fight in a public place
* Being armed in public
* Assault
