Police are investigating a possible assault after locating a 28-year-old male with head injuries on Sheirs Street in the Narrows last night.

The man was located at 8:45pm lying on the footpath outside Hudson Fysh Flats before police performed first aid and contacted St John Ambulance.

He was conveyed to Royal Darwin Hospital where he remains in the Intensive Care Unit in a serious but stable condition.

At this stage it is unknown how the man sustained the injuries and police are calling for public assistance.
