Assault - Ludmilla - Update

Police

NT Police have arrested two men, aged 32 and 21, in relation to the assault last week of two French nationals in Ludmilla.

On Wednesday 4 August, two 20-year-old French tourists were waiting at a bus stop on Bagot Road at about 8:45 pm when they were approached by four unknown males.

One of the males asked for cigarettes and when the male victim declined the alleged offender proceeded to punch him repeatedly to the head. The victim said he was approached again by two offenders who asked for $20 and again when he declined he was assaulted.

The second offender then proceeded to threaten the man and his female partner with a stick. The tourists subsequently ran down Bagot Road and were able to flag down a motorist who drove them to Casuarina Police Station.

The two offenders have been charged with assault causing harm and aggravated assault.

The 21-year-old faces additional charges of stealing.

Both men received bail and are will face Darwin Magistrates Court on 30 August.

"Police would like to thank members of the public for their assistance with the investigation," Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said.

"The quick actions from police, combined with the assistance from the public, led to the offenders being caught within three days of the offence, which is a great result."
