Assault Ludmilla

Police

NT Police are calling for public assistance after two French nationals were assaulted in Ludmilla last night.

The two 20-year-olds were waiting at a bus stop on the outbound lane of Bagot Road at about 8:45 pm when they were allegedly approached by four unknown males. They have told police that one of the males asked for cigarettes and when the male victim declined the alleged offender proceeded to punch him repeatedly to the head.

After the initial assault ceased, the victim said he was approached by another man from the group who asked for $20 and again when he declined he was assaulted.

The second offender then proceeded to threaten the man and his female partner with a stick. The tourists subsequently ran down Bagot Road and were able to flag down a motorist who drove them to Casuarina Police Station.

They received minor injuries as a result of the incident and did not require medical treatment.

The offenders are described as:

A male of Aboriginal appearance
Aged between 22-25 years
Scars on his chest as he was not wearing a shirt at the time of the incident

A male approximately 30-years-old
195 - 200 centimetres tall
Solid build with facial hair

A male of Aboriginal appearance
About 18-years-old with a scar on his left shoulder

The victims allege there was another male and two females of Aboriginal appearance present at the time of the assault.

Senior Sergeant Rob Jordan said this was a cowardly attack on two people minding their own business.
"We are calling on the public to assist us in locating the offenders responsible for this senseless attack".

Any one who may have witnessed the assault or may have further information in relation to the incident is urged to contact NT Police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
