Assault charges –Alice Springs

Three men will face court following an assault on the driver of a car which struck a child in Flynn Drive on Tuesday night.

A 32-year-old man was taken to hospital by ambulance after he was severely beaten when he went to the aid of a three-year-old boy who had run out in front of his car. As he was trying to give assistance he was set upon by a large group of people who came out of a nearby residence.

The victim's Ford Courier Utility was stolen during the incident, however, police seized the vehicle when the alleged offenders returned to the scene a short time later.

Three men, aged 25, 34 and 36 were arrested and have been charged with aggravated assault. The 36-year-old has also been charged with unlawful use of a motor vehicle.

The 25-year-old and the 34-year-old have been bailed to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court on May 11 while the 36-year-old has been remanded in custody to appear in court today.
