A 29-year-old man was arrested following an incident in which a woman was stabbed and another was assaulted in Darwin this morning.

Police received a report just after 2.30am of a disturbance at a residence in Woods Street unit. Police allege that during the disturbance the man punched his 31-year-old ex-wife numerous times to the face and stabbed another woman, aged 34, to the chest.

The two victims were taken to the Royal Darwin Hospital for treatment to their injuries and later released.

Police said it appeared the argument started when the man allegedly punched his ex-wife at a nightclub earlier in the evening. He then returned home and assaulted the pair when they returned to the Woods Street residence in the early hours of this morning.

The man was arrested and is yet to be charged.
