A man will appear in court today after allegedly assaulting his wife with a knife and a metal spike.

Just before 10.30pm on Tuesday night Police received a report of a domestic disturbance at a unit in Undoolya Road, Alice Springs. They found a 34-year-old woman had been assaulted with a metal spike and stabbed in the left leg and both hands. She was taken to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in a stable condition.

The victim's 52-year-old husband was arrested at the scene. He was charged with being armed with an offensive weapon and aggravated assault. He was remanded in custody to appear in the Alice Springs Magistrates Court today.
