Police are investigating an incident in which a 36-year-old woman woke to find a man in her room at an Alice Springs Motel in the early hours of this morning.
Police were called to the Gap Road motel after neighbours were woken by a woman's screams. The woman told police she was asleep when she was woke to find a man in her room just after 4.30am.
The man got onto the bed and began punching her to the head and body, but fled when the woman began screaming. Her screams woke neighbours who called the police. The offender appears to have unlawfully entered the room through a rear window.
Police are appealing for witnesses to come forward and would like to speak to three young males of Aboriginal appearance who were seen walking in the area just after the assault. One of the group was wearing a white cap and another was wearing a red t-shirt. There are no further descriptions at this stage.
