Arrests for unlawful entry – Alice Springs - 4535773

Police

Two teenagers were arrested after they allegedly walked into an unlocked room at a backpackers accommodation complex in Gap Road and stole a bag.

The victim, a 26-year-old Dutch tourist, told police he awoke just after 2.30am on Sunday morning to find two men in his room. They fled with a bag containing a camera, wallet, mobile phone and passport.

A short time later a police patrol in the area apprehended two males fitting the description given by the victim. The pair, aged 19 and 17, were arrested and charged with unlawfully entering an occupied dwelling at night and stealing. They have been bailed to appear in court on June 24.

The stolen property has since been recovered.

Once again police remind people - especially visitors to town - to ensure they lock their doors and keep valuables in a safe place.
