Arrests - Stolen Motor Vehicle - Nightcliff

Police

Members from the Youth Crime Unit have apprehended three youths following a number of stealing incidents in Nightcliff last week.

A group of youths entered a service station in Nightcliff on a number of occasions and are alleged to have stolen numerous items from the store.

It is alleged the same youths later broke into a Toyota Hilux Utility parked at a set of units on Progress Drive, locating a set of keys for a Suzuki Swift also in the car park. The youths allegedly used the keys to drive the Suzuki from the unit complex and along the Nightcliff foreshore area.

Police allege the offenders lost control of the Suzuki Swift on Casuarina Drive and crashed through a number of low-set wooden guard rails before colliding with a light pole causing it to shear from its base and fall onto the road.

The vehicle, valued at over $20,000 received extensive damage.

Police apprehended one of the youths on Monday and two other youths attended Casuarina Police Station on Wednesday at which time they were interviewed.

A 13-year-old male and 14-year-old male are due to appear in Darwin Youth Court on 27 July in relation to stealing and unlawful use of motor vehicle offences. The third offender, a 15-year-old boy, is to be summonsed in relation to unlawful use of a motor vehicle.
