Arrests for assault – Alice Springs

Police

Two teenage boys have been arrested following an assault in Spearwood Drive early Monday morning. (Monday Dec 27).

Just after 4am Monday Police received a report from the residents of the Spearwood Drive property complaining they were assaulted by a group of juveniles.

The victims told police they were woken around 3.30am by a knock on the door. When they answered the door, two young males asked them for marijuana. The occupant of the premises said he had none and closed the door. Approximately half an hour later there was another knock on the door and the 28 year old male occupant of the premises opened the door to be confronted by four young males. One of the males had his face covered with a t-shirt and was wielding a pair of scissors. One of the males then punched the victim to the face. The victim managed to close the door and call police.

A police patrol arrested two young males a short time later in Mallam Crescent. The pair aged 14 and 15 have both been charged with two counts of aggravated assault and one of criminal damage. Police are urging residents to be cautious when answering their doors late at night, and to ensure they keep their screen doors locked.

Meanwhile, on Friday night, four men were attacked as they sat on their front verandah at a house in Mallam Crescent. The men, aged between 17 and 23, told police that a male approached them around 10.30pm and asked them for cigarettes. When they refused another three males joined the first offender and threatened the victims. One of the offenders was holding a metal bar. One of the men demanded money and the victims handed over a quantity of cash and a lighter. One of the offenders then struck the 23-year-old victim to the face with a plaster cast which was on the offender's arm. The same victim also sustained injuries to his arm when another offender hit him with the metal pole.

The four offenders, plus another group of between six and ten young people who were standing on the road, began throwing rocks and beer bottles at the victims. One of the bottles struck a 22-year-old victim in the forehead. All the victims managed to get inside the house and police were called.

All the offenders were described as being young males of Aboriginal appearance.

Police are appealing to anyone with information about either of these incidents to phone 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
