Tennant Creek Police have charged a 17-year-old male in relation to the assault of a 35-year-old female on Limonite Street on Tuesday.

Police were patrolling in the vicinity Limonite Street at approximately 10:20 pm when they found the victim injured and unconscious near a foot bridge.

It is alleged the victim was assaulted with a thick tree branch after the getting into an argument with the offender.

The woman was taken to the Tennant Creek Hospital by St John Ambulance and later medivaced to Alice Springs Hospital where she remains in the Intensive Care Unit in a serious but stable condition.

The 17-year-old male has been charged and bailed with Assault Causing Serious Harm. He is due to appear in the Tennant Creek Youth Justice Court on 8 November.
