Alice Springs detectives have charged a 19-year-old man in relation to the unlawful entry and attempted sexual assault of 57-year-old woman in Alice Springs.

It is alleged that about 5am yesterday morning the offender entered the premises where he attempted to assault the female occupant but decamped when she screamed and fought him off.

Alice Springs Police arrested the male offender a short time later. He has been charged with aggravated unlawful entry, attempted sexual intercourse without consent, aggravated assault and stealing.

He has been remanded in custody and is appearing in Alice Springs Court tomorrow
