Arrest Stealing Darwin

Police

Members of the Commanders Tactical Team arrested a 47-year-old woman yesterday in relation to a number of stealing offences.

It is alleged the women stole an amount of money from three businesses in the Darwin area over the past six months.

On 24 November 2009 the offender is alleged to have entered a shop at Casuarina Shopping Square and removed an amount of money from a safe and staff members hand bag at the rear of the business.

The second offence took place on 7 April 2010 where the offender is alleged to have entered a business on Cavenagh Street before removing an amount of money from the till. When confronted by staff the woman then made a booking under a false name before leaving the premises.

At about 5:15 on Monday the woman allegedly entered a building on Palmerston Circuit and is alleged to have walked to a rear office before locating a staff member's wallet and stealing an amount of money.

Police viewed CCTV of the incidents and arrested the woman at about 3:15pm yesterday at Palmerston Police Station.

She later made full admissions to the incidents.

The woman was charged with stealing and has been remanded in custody to appear in Darwin Magistrates Court today.

Detective Sergeant Andy Bedwell says "again CCTV has assisted in the arrest of an offender who is a recidivist thief and would no doubt have continued to commit offences around Darwin".

"Police urge shop staff to be vigilant and try to keep front counters attended, we also urge people to consider installing CCTV as is a great tool in apprehending these callous offenders".
