Arrest - Sexual Assaults

Police

Members from the Child Abuse Taskforce are continuing investigations after a 59-year?old Malak man was arrested yesterday in relation to a number of sexual assault offences.

The man is alleged to have committed offences against eight female victims aged between six and 18 years of age over an approximate 20 year period.

NT Police are working in conjunction with interstate and international detectives with the possibility of identifying further victims.

The offender is expected to be charged in relation to the offences this week.

Detective Sergeant Karen Sanderson urges parents and carers to encourage open communication with children in their family as it is not uncommon for child abuse offenders to be known to victims and their families.

Anyone with any information in relation to child abuse should contact the Police or ring the Central Intake Team, NT Families and Children on 1800 700 250.
