Members of the Child Abuse Taskforce arrested a 49-year-old male over the weekend in relation to several allegation of sexual assault in a remote Territory community.

Police attended the community on 21 February and conveyed the offender back to Darwin where he is currently in custody.

It is believed the offender engaged in sexual activity with two females aged 10 & 11-years-old and Police remain in the community to liaise with community members to identify further possible victims.

The man is expected to be charged in relation to a number of sexual assault offences.

Sergeant Neil Hayes says "this arrest is a good example of the public working with police to take these dangerous offenders out of the community".
