Arrest - Drug and firearm offences - Wagait Beach

Police

Two 26-year-old men remain in custody after police conducted a search warrant of a Wagait Beach residence earlier today.

Members from Palmerston Police, Tactical Response Section, Drug Enforcement Section and the Dog Operations Unit attended the house after receiving information from the public.

It is alleged a number of people residing at the house had been selling cannabis in Belyuen and Mandorah recently.

During the course of the search, four unsecured stolen firearms, a total of 95 grams of cannabis and five cannabis plants were located and seized by police.

The potential street value of the drugs is estimated at $5 700.

The two men were arrested at the scene and conveyed to Darwin Watch House. Police expect to charge them in relation to a number of drug and firearm offences later today.

Superintendent Tony Fuller said two of the stolen firearms were located on a mattress near a group of sleeping children.

"Police are pleased to have removed these drugs from our community; however, it saddens us to see young children exposed to such perilous and squalid living conditions."

"NT Police are committed to keeping our community safe and will continue to put these offenders before the courts".
