Arrest - Breach parole and assault police

Members from the Special Operations Section arrested a 26-year-old man, after he failed to comply with his parole conditions and committed further serious offences on Friday.

At about 9.40 am on 3 September, the offender is alleged to have stopped his vehicle at road works on the Stuart Highway in Coolalinga before he was approached by police.

Members attempted to arrest the driver by extracting him from his silver Toyota Yaris, however the man resisted and drove at the officers in an attempt to run them over.

He then fled the scene, speeding erratically inbound on the Stuart Highway.

Members arrested the man a short time later walking along Dorrigo Crescent in Karama.

He was conveyed to the Darwin Watch House and charged in relation to the following offences

3 x assault police
3 x reckless endangerment/serious harm
Drive in a dangerous manner
Drive at a dangerous speed
Police are calling for further witnesses and urge any one who observed the incident on the Stuart Highway to contact them on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000.
