Arrest for assaults –Alice Springs

A 13-year-old boy has been arrested following an incident in Gap Road last night in which two men were assaulted by a group of youths.

Police were patrolling in Gap Road just after 11pm last night when they saw two men being chased by a group of four youths near the Memorial Club.

When the offenders saw police they tried to flee, however one of the group was arrested and taken into custody. The two victims, aged 39 and 19, told police they were walking along Gap Road towards Toddys Backpackers when they were accosted by the youths. During an altercation both victims were assaulted as they tried to break free of the group.

Police have charged with 13-year-old with two counts of assault. He has been bailed to appear in the Youth Justice Court on September 21.

Senior Sergeant Darrell Kerr said police were appealing for witnesses to come forward.

"Investigations are continuing to locate the other youths and we are appealing for anyone who may have witnessed the incident to phone police on 131 444 or Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000," Sen Sgt Kerr said.
