Arrest - Assault Galiwinku

Galiwinku Police arrested a 17-year-old male after he damaged a police car at the school oval last night.

It is alleged a member attended the oval at about 11:00am yesterday to speak with the male after he was involved in a domestic incident earlier in the day. Upon approaching the youth, the officer was subjected to verbal abuse before the offender threw several rocks at the police Toyota Landcruiser smashing the vehicles windscreen.

The youth then produced a knife and proceeded to threaten the police officer with it.

Two additional members arrived on the scene a short time later and successfully ground stabilized the man before removing the 25 cm filleting knife and a pair of scissors from his pockets. He was arrested and conveyed to Galiwinku Police Station where he was charged with the following offences:

Unlawfully damage property
Armed with an offensive weapon
Possess carry use controlled weapon
Going armed in public
Assault a member of the police force
Make a threat to kill a person
The youth was expected to appear in Darwin Youth Justice Court today.
